Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Playa del Carmen, sometimes known only as "Playa", is a fishing village on the Mayan Riviera and a laid-back neighbor to Cancún. The population is 60,000 inhabitants and increasing as a tourist destination. The residents of "Playa" try to maintain their "bohemian charm and relaxed pace." From "Playa' one can take a ferry to Cozumel for world-class scuba diving, visiting an abundance of Mayan ruins or heading to Cancun for shopping and nightlife. "Playa's" white sands, its clear Caribbean waters and lush tropical vegetation make up its beautiful landscape. It's a great place to learn about Mexican-Caribbean culture as well as learning the Spanish language.
